Grace Christian School Dress Code - 2007/2008

The Grace Christian School dress code is based on Scriptural guidelines of modesty, neatness, and consistency.  It is our intent to establish a standard of appearance for the children that will bring honor to the Lord.  It is the parents’ responsibility to support and uphold this dress code by dressing their children within the guidelines listed below.

Acceptable Clothing for Girls:

Skirts: Solid colors or plaid: tan, navy, green, black, or gray of modest length, no higher than just above the knee.
Jumpers: 

Solid colors or plaid: tan, navy, green, black, or gray of modest length, no higher than just above the knee.  Exception: Kindergarten may wear nice, modest, loose fitting dresses as regular attire.

Shirts: 

Polo style shirts, short or long sleeve.  Solid color, plaids or stripes.

Button down dress shirts with fold down collar, short or long sleeve.  Solid color,  plaids or stripes.

Turtleneck or mock turtleneck shirts.  Solid color, plaids or stripes.

Pants:

Dockers style pants (cotton twill, polyester blend or corduroy).  Solid color: tan, navy, green, black or gray.  Pants are to be worn with shirts tucked in with a belt.

Exception: Elastic waistbands without belts are acceptable for students in  grades K-2.

Sweaters:

Cardigan or pullover.  Solid color, small pattern, stripe, 2-tone, any color. Sweatshirts or sweat jackets cannot be worn in class with the exception of the GCS P.E. sweatshirt.

Shoes:

For safety, all shoes much be closed and no open backs.  No sandals, open toe, heels or clogs.  Socks must be worn at all times.

Dress up on Chapel Day for Girls:

On chapel day, girls may wear a nice dress, jumper, or skirt outfit that meets the established standards of this dress code.  Outfit must be of modest length, no higher than just above the knee, neat, modest and loose fitting. No midriff showing.

Dress up on Chapel Day for Boys:

On chapel day, boys are to wear a button-down dress shirt with fold down collar tucked into belted “Docker” style pants.  Shirts may be any solid color, plaid, or stripe.

Physical Education Day – All Students

PE Uniform:Sweat Pants with GCS logo
 Sweatshirts with GCS logo
 T-shirts with GCS logo
 Shorts with GCS logo
 Sneakers

When physical education classes are on Friday (during the ski program), regular GCS PE uniform is required attire.

Jean and Sneaker Day – All Students

Jeans and sneaker day is celebrated the First Wednesday of each month.  Students may wear their official GCS T-shirt, polo shirts, turtle or mock turtleneck with neat (no holes), modest fitting blue jeans with socks and sneakers.  Shirts and jeans must fit properly and not be over-sized.

NOTE:

  1. Pants for Grades K-2 may have elastic waistbands with no belt.  Pants for Grades 3-6 must have a belt.
  2. Unacceptable pants (and shorts) include cargo pants, carpenter pants, jeans, draw-string waist bands, stretch twill, knit pants, polyester pants, mid-calf pants, flares or baggy style pants.
  3. All clothing must fit.  Please don’t send your children with over-sized clothing.
  4. Sometimes it is difficult to find clothing that does not have the manufacturer logo.  Small logos not over 2" in length or width may be worn.
  5. Boy’s hair must be neatly combed and trimmed to a moderate length.
  6. Dress shorts or capri's (uniform style) and gauchos (solid colors only) are acceptable on warm days between May 15 and Sept. 15.  Solid spring colors such as pink, light blue etc. are acceptable during this time.
  7. The gauchos are not appropriate on Chapel day.

Grace Christian School reserves the right of decision as to what constitutes “proper dress.”  As new styles and clothing patterns develop, the school will make adjustments within the Scriptural guidelines of modesty, propriety, and clarity of Christian testimony.  Parents will be notified, via a note sent home with their child, of dress code violation.
